There are also rules regarding the number of dispensaries the City may have, as well as how many plants they may grow, and how much pot patients may get on a monthly basis. - 75 - 80
Chronically ill patients in Washington, D.C., may be just months away from legally using marijuana to treat their conditions. The Washington Post is reporting that the D.C. Jack Herer, the founder of the modern day hemp movement, passed away on April 15, 2010 in Eugene, Oregon. He was 70 years old.
Herer strongly supported the legalization of marijuana. He wrote two books and was the subject of a documentary on the subject. Herer had two heart attacks, and attributed his recovery from the first one to marijuana. He never fully recovered from his second heart attack last fall, and his death is attributed to complications from that heart attack.
Wikipedia claims that Herer believed that hemp "should be decriminalized because it has been shown to be a renewable source of fuel, food, and medicine, and can be grown in virtually any part of the world, and that the U.S. government deliberately hides the proof of this."
