Crime Reduction Measure in Effect in DC Metro Garages
Posted on Oct 01, 2010
DC Metro police are using license plate readers attached to their vehicles in an attempt to reduce crime. They use the license plate readers to find stolen vehicles, catch car thieves, identify vehicles linked to serious crimes, and identify individuals or vehicles on the national terror watch list.
Cameras capture license plate numbers and run them through databases, which allows them to note vehicles of interest. Metro police can also check vehicle registration and find out if the owner of the vehicle has outstanding warrants.
